What Exactly is a Vortex?
Before visiting a vortex it is helpful to understand what exactly one is and what you can expect when you encounter one. Though there are many theories as to what constitutes and creates an earth vortex; one theory denotes that a vortex are naturally occurring phenomenon found only in places where the earth is exceptionally ripe with magnetic energy. This magnetic energy swirls from the ground, drawing to its center everything that surrounds it, much like a tornado. This swirling energy can be seen demonstrated in the twist of the trunks of the juniper trees that grow within its powerful energy field.

How does this affect me?
The body is a delicate balance of magnetic and electric energy. Our brains primarily produce the electric energy, our body the magnetic. When our system loses it perfect symmetry of these energies our physical and emotional health get taxed and we feel out of synch. Visiting a vortex recalibrates and reboots your whole magnetic system with vital life force energy - which can have dramatic effects on how you perceive your daily life and choices you make.

Sedona’s Four Most Notable Vortex Sites
Bell Rock
“One reason Bell Rock is so popular is because in its presence, it is easy to feel vortex energy. There are people who say they’ve had an experience of powerful energy swirling around and enveloping their whole body, and there are also a number of people who say they’ve seen moving images that seem to foretell future events.”

Cathedral Rock
“The energy here is very mild. You gently absorb it, like water seeping into parched earth or like melting snow. Rather than being directed outward, the energy soaks inward, so that just by sitting quietly, your mind becomes calm and at ease. Because this soft energy touches your body and mind like a mother’s touch, it’s a place for releasing negative emotions or memories.”

Airport Mesa
“The sunset you see from here makes you understand what’s meant by the term “breathtakingly beautiful… when the sun goes down the clouds that were radiating golden light gradually melt from orange to vermilion to scarlet to crimson until, finally, they fade to ash and then sink into blackness. And night comes to Sedona. If you lay down on the rocks that have been warmed all day by sun and look up at the night sky, the whole universe comes affectionately close to you.”

Boynton Canyon
“This is the most mysterious and sacred of the four vortexes of Sedona. It’s said that the native Yavapai-Apache would not dare enter this area without first purifying their body and mind through fasting or deep meditation. They believed the goddess of this land lived there. As you walk through the lush forest you see a new leaf sprouting from beneath a dying black tree, you see life existing in the shadow of death. You realize that life and death are not separate from each other, but that they coexist.”
